AGARTALA, Feb 16 (TIWN): Instead of constructing new flyovers, in the name of SMART City, Agartala Municipal Corporation is busy in rattling poor people’s livelihoods with targets to beautify the city. The inhuman drive against vendors and the working-class started soon after BJP managed to win Municipal Poll. Today AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder himself was on the ground in an Eviction drive but faced massive protest by Auto Drivers at Battala after he asked them to vacate the area in Battala and shift to Nagerjala. Talking to media, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder however said that amid any obstruction, the town will be functioned as per direction of the AMC and the occuped areas to be vacated. An agitating auto driver told the media that they will not fall into the trap of the AMC Mayor who is asking the auto drivers to vacate the area for now and later talks may be done.

“Right now, they are asking us to vacate the area but we know, later they will kick us away...........”, said the auto driver.

Another auto driver said, “What has the Govt given to us ? Nothing ! Now, whatever we have, the Govt is trying to snatch that livelihood too amid massive CNG and other commodity price hikes”.
