AGARTALA, Feb 10 (TIWN): Newly elected Mayor, Alik Majumder after winning by massive ‘Chappa Vote’ in Civic Poll, has started forceful eviction of roadside small shops in the name of making City Agartala as ‘Smart City’. Today from Battala to Dashmighat area all shops which were placed on the roadside were demolished with bulldozers at the initiative of AMC authorities without paying any compensation.

Reportedly, the shopkeepers were given a time limit of 7days before evicting but within very less time several shopkeepers could not make alternative arrangements.

An AMC staff before the media said that the illegal parking on the roadside will be shifted to TRTC.

Govt’s aim to make the City Agartala ‘Smart City’ is a great initiative but without making alternative arrangements demolishing small stalls displayed Govt inhuman acts. 

Recently Supreme Court also ruled that everyone has "Right to Livelihood" but without following the constitution, AMC's forceful eviction with 7 days notice without compensation is anti-people, unconstitutional.
