Agartala, January 2 (TIWN): In order to sensitize the law enforcing officers about the scale of wildlife crime and the ways to combat the situation in Tripura, the wildlife wing of the Forest Department in collaboration with the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Eastern region recently organized a two-day workshop in the conference hall of JICA Bhavan at Gandhigram.
The workshop was held on wildlife crime, investigation and intelligence collection. Principal Secretary of Forest Department- Dr. V.K. Bahuguna inaugurated the workshop in presence of Consultant from the International Rhino Foundation, officers from the WCCB, forest and police departments.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Bahuguna exhorted the participants to understand the need for better coordination between forest, police and judiciary on nature of wildlife crimes. He further gave an insight on the dimension of the wildlife crime in North-East, vital role of police and forest officers in prevention and detection of wildlife crime.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests- Sanatan Talukdar, PCCF and Chief Wildlife Warden- AK Gupta and other senior officers were present in the inaugural session. Altogether 46 officers from Police and Forest departments attended the workshop. In an official statement, Forest Department provided the information.
