AGARTALA / SANTIR BAZAR, Feb 4 (TIWN): Tension among Tripura CM Biplab Deb and Media continues due to various incidents one after another. On Friday, Journalists of Santir Bazar under Santir Bazar Press Club have boycotted Tripura CM Biplab Deb’s visit at the 9th Battalion camp in Santir Bazar after local journalists were not allowed to enter the camp. The on-duty office officer allegedly told the journalists that only Agartala-based journalists’ names were given to get entries and that’s why nobody from Santir Bazar was allowed. This incident erupted heavy resentment among the local journalists. They alleged it of a ‘discrimination’ among urban and rural journalists, a strike on press freedom. With heavy resentments, journalists boycotted the entire programme of CM's TSR 9th Bn camp visit.
Talking to the media, a member of the Santir Bazar Press Club said, “We were invited by the ICAT Dept to cover the programme and so we came here to record the visit of CM but after we reached, we were not allowed to enter saying only listed journalists are allowed inside who are coming from Agartala. So, Santir Bazar subdivision’s journalists have boycotted CM’s visit programme”.
