Reportedly, on Wednesday afternoon the man identified as Laxman Chakraborty (60), resident of Sabroom's Manu area consumed acid after being tortured and humiliated by his daughter-in-law. His family members alleged that his daughter-in-law was pressuring him for property and mentally and physically torturing him since last few days. Out of grief and humiliation the man took this step, said his family members.

After his family noticed the matter, they immediately took him to Sabroom Subdivisional hospital. Later he was referred to Agartala GB hospital as his condition was deteriorating. On Thursday morning the man succumbed to his pain at Agartala GB hospital. A complaint letter will be filed by the deceased family against his daughter-in-law, said his son.

This incident left the locals of Manu area in shock.
