Agartala, Dec 27 (TIWN): A delegation of Indian National Trinamool Trade Union Congress (INTTUC) today submitted a deputation to the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC)- Dr. Prafullajit Sinha seeking immediate rehabilitation of evicted roadside hawkers of Battala.
In a memorandum to AMC Mayor, the delegation expressed that eviction by Task Force has directly affected the economic condition of roadside hawkers and their family members are passing through partial starvation at present.
The delegates demanded for immediate rehabilitation of roadside hawkers in a permanent place and allow them to carry out their businesses at the same place in Battala until the rehabilitation.
After studying the demands of INTTUC delegates, AMC Mayor- Dr. Prafullajit Sinha assured them saying a hawker zone will be set up in the city. For that, the Mayor sought time and patience from the delegates.
The convener of INTTUC (in-charge)- Biplab Kar, former working president of Pradesh Trinamool Congress- Nitai Chowdhury, leaders of Motor Workers’ Union – Sankar Debnath, Samir Das and many other delegates attended the deputation.
It is worthy to mention here; Task Force of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Tripura Police jointly staged eviction drive at Battala, the heart of the capital city, on December 10, in which around 50 hawkers were evicted affecting over 100 people depending on these shops from the both road sides at Battala today. The eviction drive was carried out in the both road sides of Battala including Joynagar road no-1 as well.
