Agartala, Sep 16 (TIWN) After the BJP government twice denied permission to the Trinamool Congress to hold a mega rally led by the party's national General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee in Agartala, the TMC on Tuesday announced that it would hold the rally on September 22. Trinamool General Secretary Kunal Ghosh said here that if the Tripura government tries to stop the TMC rally, the party would go to court.
“This is our constitutional right. If the Tripura government tries to stop the AITC rally, the party will go to court and fight it legally,” he told reporters. TMC leader Sushmita Dev said, “Our survey shows that people of Tripura have decided to oust BJP from the state.” Earlier, the state government had denied it permission to hold a rally in Agartala on Wednesday, saying permission had already been given to another political party for a rally on the same route. It said permission had already been given to the women’s wing of the BJP. When TMC sought permission for September 16, the sub-divisional police officer-Sadar, Anirban Das, in a letter to TMC leader Subal Bhowmik, said it would not be possible as the police would be preparing to ensure law and order in view of Viswakarma Puja, which falls on September 17.
TMC’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who was to lead the proposed rally, said in a tweet, “BJP India is scared to death and BJP Biplab (Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb) is using all his might and resources to prevent me from entering Tripura.
Keep trying, but you cannot stop me. Your fear of AITC shows that your days in governance are numbered. Truth be told, yeh darr humein achha laga!” Ghosh said, “Several top BJP/ RSS leaders visited West Bengal for campaign during the Assembly election – the administration or the law enforcement did not stop them. Tripura BJP has reached a new low – they have realised that the citizens of Tripura have rejected them, this is why BJP is trying to stop AITC.”
