AGARTALA, December 22 (TIWN): The first phase of replacing the street lights with high power efficient LED lights have started in the both sides of VIP road from Governor House to Airport, here today.
In the first phase of the work EESL is slated to replace 470 lights spanning from the Agartala Airport till Raj Bhawan in the Northern zone of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) within December 25this year.
It is to be mentioned here that on December 9th a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Agartala Municipal Corporation and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), New Delhi at the Agartala Municipal Corporation community hall.
Under this fresh project, altogether 35000 street lights in AMC areas will be changed to LED lamp. For that, a survey was conducted across the state by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in a recent past.
The entire project will be implemented by the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), Ministry of Power (GOI), New Delhi. The project cost has been estimated Rs. 18 to 20 crore. The whole project will be implemented by March 31, 2015.
According to the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), the main objectives of this project are; substantial reduction in energy consumption of the street light system, considerable reduction of electricity bills for street lighting of Municipal bodies/ Nagar Panchayats, reduction in evening peak load and to provide better and adequate lighting levels compared to existing system.
