AGARTALA, June 1 (TIWN): The National highway before Charailam Bazaar submerged in a downpour on Tuesday. Several vehicles got stuck in the middle of the road for the waist-water level.
The condition of the national highway in this area has been dilapidated for a long time. The National Highway Construction Authority has been informed innumerable times but no solution was made. Besides, drains on both sides of the highway have not been cleaned for a long time.
The Bandhan Bank, Cooperative Bank, Satsanga Ashram, and two idol-making shops situated there are facing a huge loss due to the poor condition of the road. Even if during light rains the road gets submerged and the water remains stagnant for 2-3 hours.
The people of the area however demanded the renovation of the eroded highway and to clean the drains.
