AGARTALA, May 29 (TIWN): The drinking water crisis is at its peak. For a year now, the locals residing in the ADC's Shikaribari area are facing an acute drinking water crisis. Amid the intense heat, for the last three days, the locals received not a single drop of water from the mini tube-well installed in the area and despite complaining to the concerned department staff and the Panchayat head, no initiative was taken to repair the broken tube well. In addition to the water scarcity, the people also raised a question on the electricity department for frequent power cuts.
Losing patience with the department workers, the locals gheraoed the pump operator today. The pump operator was, however, freed from the siege after he promised to take the matter to the notice of the higher authorities to solve the problem.
The protesters have also threatened to gherao the block office and the concerned electricity office if the issues are not resolved within three days.
