Meanwhile, 10323 teachers organized a press conference at the premises of Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala. Addressing the media, JMC leader Bijoy Krishna Saha urged the government to pay Rs. 20,000 to each teacher so that they can buy foods and medicines to deal with the pandemic.
”Last year the state government gave Rs. 35,000 to each of us to cope up with the COVID situation but this year we have not received any kind of help from it. We can’t afford milk for our children or medicines for our parents in this difficult time. It is becoming tough for us to sustain during this pandemic. We are thus requesting the government to step forward and look into the matter. Most of the teachers are dying without necessary treatment, some are committing suicides over debt.”
“In case the government fails to meet our demand, we will visit the 7 MLAs to seek help”, he asserted.
However, the untimely demise of Niranjan Goswami has cast a shadow of mourn within 10323 teachers.
