AGARTALA, May 15 (TIWN): Priya Debnath wife of Subhankar Debnath residing in the Bheri Mora area under the Lefunga police station consumed poison on Saturday over alleged tortures by her husband.

It is learned that Priya got socially married to Subhankar a year and a half back. Since then Subhankar used to return home in a state of intoxication every day and beat his wife. Today during their daughter’s first rice eating ceremony, Subhankar came home drunk and beaten his wife allegedly. 

It is known that on Saturday rice-eating ceremony programme of their 9 months old daughter was going on but Shubhankar reached home in an alcoholic condition. Seeing this Priya, the housewife was beaten up on being asked to reach home in an alcoholic condition in front of everyone.  Unable to bear the torture the housewife consumed poison.

However, the victim is currently undergoing treatment from GBP hospital and her father said that he will file case against her husband and his family.
