AGARTALA, May 13 (TIWN): The suspension bridge over the Gomati river at Tel Kajla, Melaghar in Mohanbhog RD block of Sepahijla district has become a death trap.

It is known that this bridge was built during the CPIM era for the benefit of the people of Tel Kajla, Baniyachhara, Dasharath Bari, and Kalamkhet. Locals travel over this bridge by two-wheelers. But for a long year and a half, the hanging bridge has become dilapidated. The steel sheets pinned over the bridge have eroded and turned into big holes. The holes have become so big that bike riders and cyclists often get their wheels stuck in.

Although the people of the area have repeatedly brought the matter to the notice of the higher authorities, the department didn’t show any concern. Annoyed about the fact, the locals demanded an immediate renovation of the bridge.
