AGARTALA, April 11 (TIWN): Two persons named Malendra Reang (25), Ranjit Reang (31) were arrested in Santir Bazar for derogatory remarks against Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb in social media.Â
The arrested persons were produced before Court but got interim bails.
Santirbazar Police booked them under Section 120 (b), section 153 (a), 295 section (a), 504 and section 505 (II) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In Tripura due to Facebook posts, many youths were arrested in the last 3 years, even recently a BJP MLA's daughter was suspended after criticizing an alleged corruption in a hospital where she was employed. Earlier in 2019, a boy named Dipak Debnath was arrested without FIR just because he shared Tripurainfoway.com news which questioned on the double schooling certificates of a BJP MLA. Like this many youths were harassed, arrested, jailed for facebook remarks. A journalist Parashar Biswas was beaten up severely after his statement on Biplab Deb after Biplab Deb threatened the media in broad daylight.
