AGARTALA, Feb 22 (TIWN): Marriage of girls below age of 18 is strictly prohibited in India and also a punishable offence. Marriage of minor girls in rural parts of Tripura is a common phenomenon. No impact could be seen even after various awareness programmes by Govt departments and women’s commission. Such an incident came up again, 16 years old minor girl was rescued before getting married in Barjala area on Monday.
After receiving information from Roti Bank Fondation, Child Line and West Women Police led a raid jointly in Barjala area and rescued the minor.
The Childline was succeeded in their mission to stop the child marriage and took a written from parents. Rescued team counselled the family and the girl and also explained marriage below 18 is illegal and if anyone is involved with child marriage they will be imprisoned.
