AGARTALA, Dec 18 (TIWN): Tripura High Court has issued a notice to Tripura Govt over raid in Congress leader Gopal Roy's house which erupted much criticism in the state very recently amid COVID-19 time.
Briefing about the details behind the petition filed by Gopal Roy, High Court senior Advocate Purushottom Roy Barman said, the raid was led by Central DSP held in Gopal Roy's home on 5th April, 2020 at 2.30 pm. The raid for long 2 and half hour with huge police force amid COVID-19 at 70 years old man's home was nothing but a political vendetta.
The action against Gopal Roy came after he filed a complaint in NCC PS against CM Biplab Deb for spreading wrong information of COVID-19 but after the complaint of the opposition leader, another case was filed against Gopal Roy in allegation of using Ashok-symbol on writing pad although he was not the MLA in position. The whole incident was nothing but political interpretation, said Purushottom Roy Barman.
On yesterday the petition was heard by High Court in the bench of Chief Justice Akil Kureshi. It was told the Court that this raid was done without any search warrant.
Purushottom Roy Barman raised question, around 200 police officials entered Gopal Roy's home and closed the main gate. They did not allow anyone to go inside. If this is the level of torture on a senior leader of the state, what will be the condition of common men ?
