Ambassa, Dec 4 (TIWN): Acting on tip-off, police of Ambassa police station and jawans of 71 Bn Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recovered 710 bottles of contraband items (Eskof syrup) worth Rs. 1 lakh from a Maruti van at Chamalcherra area of Ambassa sub-division, last night.
Based on specific inputs, traffic police and police of Ambassa police station led by Officer-in-Charge (OC)- Swapan Dasgupta tried to stop a Maruti van bearing number TR01-0755 at Ambassa town. After getting stop signal, the driver of the vehicle started moving forward towards Atharamura with high speed.
As a result, a contingent of police started following by bike and after reaching at Jiyalcherra, police sought assistance from CRPF jawans of 71 Bn. The on duty CRPF jawans picked the vehicle from Chamalcherra area but the driver and the co-driver of the vehicle fled away showing thumb to CRPF jawans.
However, police seized the Maruti van and taken it at the Ambassa police station. During the search, police recovered 710 bottles of contraband items worth Rs. 1 lakh from the Maruti van.
