AGARTALA, July 20 (TIWN): CPI-M MLAs jointly held a press meet today in Melarmath Party office. Raising daily workers’ miseries issues, former Minister, MLA Sahid Chowdhury has placed his statement before media.

Sahid Chowdhury said, “BJP State Govt assured to help the daily workers. When we wrote a letter,, in reply, the Labour Dept informed that 33,200 daily workers are being helped by Tripura Govt at Rs. 1,000. But registered workers numbers are 1 lakhs 7 thousand 200. Thus, lion’s share of the labourers were not helped by the Govt, amid the workers are undergoing extreme financial and work crisis”.

“For the construction workers, there is a central funding and also a board. This board has preserved huge funds till now. As per our source, huge funds were transferred for other works from this board”, said Chowdhury.

“It has resulted in starvation among the workers. For 33,200 labourers Rs. 9.96 crores have been expended but under board, there is Rs. 250 to Rs. 300 crores of amounts, but there was no help for the workers !”, said Sahid Chowdhury.

“Many of the migrant workers were sent to their states from workers funds only. Brick Industry workers helped the workers to return. Many started walking by feet to go home. So our question is where the board funds have gone ?”, Sahid Chowdhury asked the Tripura Govt through media.
