AGARTALA, July 4 (TIWN): Reacting against ruling BJP and CM’s allegation that former CM Manik Sarkar had appointed the then DGP K Nagraj with personal preference, Sarkar has strictly denied the charge. Explaining the matter, Manik Sarkar said, K Nagraj was facing a case already before he became a DGP. The case was about his income as his bank-balance’s imbalance, but the central govt did not inform the state anything about it, but still former Left Govt though repeatedly about his appointment would be a correct decision or not. “We asked him (K Nagraj), how to give you promotion when such a case has been filed against you. On that time, papers started to come which had shown that he got appointment provisionally", Manik Sarkar said.
"Also , Supreme Court on that time had given a verdict that if in such case, the verdict is not given by 2 years then the official should not suffer. If in verdict the person is convicted then he would be demoted. After that we took permissions from Centre, referring that Delhi case. It was clearly said, if he is convicted, he would be demoted. Then K Nagraj said that he is ready with that. On that time, he completed 31 years services”, said Manik Sarkar.
“But before election we changed him as case against him was going on. In 2017, he was acquitted although”, added Sarkar.
