AGARTALA, June 17 (TIWN): Heavy rain once again has thrashed the capital city Agartala, halting the normal lives of public in the city. Shops and houses went half under water, whereas public crossed the roads at knee level water. Like every year, the monsoon has remained as a big worry for the capital city residents as even after Government’s much efforts and purchasing new water discharging machines, the water logging problems continues to haunt the masses. On Wednesday, office goers faced major problems while returning home as by afternoon almost all major routes remained paralyzed due to water-logging. However, in few areas the passers went with waist level water whereas in few areas walkers chose to cross the water amid loggings.
Municipality workers were engaged in works, discharging water and functioning the machines.
Water logging problem is however not a new problem introduced in the city but it is a long frustrating issue in the city and a major challenge for the Urban Development Dept and Agartala Municipal Corporation.
Nevertheless, Urban Development has targeted a SMART City project where the city by timebeing to be freed from such major problems but question is how far it can be controlled as India’s various big cities are too reeling under same problem of water logging.
It take few hours to decrease the water level depending upon the raining period. Raining was reported across Tripura.
