AGARTALA, May 18 (TIWN): 82nd birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Lt. Sudhir Ranjan Majumder observed at the Congress Bhawan today.
Talking to media, Tripura Congress’s incumbent President Pijush Biswas said that in today’s date, it is very important to remember Sudhir Majumder like persons who showed example of what is called “tolerance”. He lived with all and had developed a political culture of politeness and rule taking all.
“Sudhir Majumder not only gave jobs to overaged people who were politically deprived but also in first cabinet meeting announced a pay scale which is above the Central pay scale”, Pijush Biswas told media.
Majumder, 75, breathed his last on January 04, 2009.
He was elected as an MLA from Bardowali constituency; Majumder was the chief minister of the state when the Congress-Tripura Upajati Juba Samity coalition was in power during 1988 and 1992.
He was first elected to the assembly in 1983 from Khayerpur constituency. From 1986 to 1988, he held the position of opposition leader in the assembly and became the TPCC President in 1988.
He was also the Rajya Sabha MP from 1992 to 1998.
A sociable gentleman, he was always accessible to the common man even during his time as the chief minister.
