AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, April 24 (TIWN): Tripura Cabinet has nodded a pilot project for 3 months to transport Horticulture products via Railways. After a cabinet meeting, Law Minister Ratanlal Nath on Thursday evening has announced that two express trains to be used for the project : 1) Tripura Sundari Express, 2) Kanchanjunga Express. Addressing media, Minister Ratanlal Nath said, “Cabinet has nodded for a pilot project of Transportation support of Horticulture productions as Pineapple, Scented Lemons via trains which were earlier parceling via either Air Cargo or Surface Transport. Those means were costlier. Thus, the cabinet decided to send products via trainwaysâ€.The Minister said that the lemons and pineapples have huge demand outside Tripura and already gained popularity but Govt eyes to reduce the cost expenditure.“Already we transported lemons and pineapples with high demands but the cost is carrying a huge burdens", Ratanlal Nath told media.
"Thus, we are in a pilot project for 3 months with Kanchanjunga which goes up to Sealdah and Tripura Sundari express train up to Delhi. We will use refrigerator parcel van. For Sealdah 1.8 lakhs Delhi 1.46 will be the cost via trains. Each van can carry 17 metric ton items”, Nath added.
Tenders will be given accordingly. The Minister said that hopefully it will increase farmers’ incomes in Tripura. Tripura Govt already has talked to the NF Railways in this regard.
