New Delhi, March 30 (TIWN) The Indian Railways is working round the clock to ensure supply of essential items during the nationwide lockdown, announced to combat the coronavirus infection.
In a statement here on Sunday, the Railway Ministry said, of the 684 rakes (35,319 wagons), 437 (24,202 wagons) were loaded with essential commodities. This included 40 rakes of gain, five rakes of sugar, one rake (42 wagons) each of salt and edible oil, 363 rakes of coal and 27 rakes of petroleum products. One wagon contains 58-60 tonne of consignment. On Saturday, the railways had loaded 695 rakes. Of this, 442 rakes were loaded with essential commodities. It included 54 rakes of grain, three of sugar, one rake each of salt and edible oil, 356 rakes of coal and 27 rakes of petroleum products.
