Agartala, November 12 (TIWN): The Indigenous Women Organization of Twipra (IWOT) State Committee had organized a State level Conference on Wednesday at Press club. The theme of their organization centers round the ongoing corruption and tortures on women.
Discussing the detailed about the ongoing issues, President of the Organization, Pabitra Rani Jamatia told that, corruption and transnational organized crime; victims' and women's rights become a major issue today . Mrs. Debbarma had stressed on taking action against gender-related killings of women and girls", which called for "an open-ended intergovernmental expert group meeting to discuss ways and means to more effectively prevent, investigate, prosecute and punish gender-related killing of women and girls". Giving the example of Soma Majumder, victim of Chandrapur Tatakalibari incident, the organization termed it as a “shameful for the society”.
Further she told that, rape had become a common issue nowadays. Womens are treated as business materials. From five to fifty, everyone was tortured every day. Besides this dowry death was accompanying side by side.
Talking about corruption, General Secretary of the organization, Swapna Debbarma told that” corruption had destroyed the society as like as white ant. Though no big fishes were caught in the trap, the whole blame had been imposed upon the ordinary clerks. In short, they demanded action against the crime on women, safety of women and steps to prevent corruption.
