AGARTALA, Dec 18 (TIWN): A day after being sold at a price of Rs 90-100 kg in the State, the price of onion suddenly skyrocketed by Rs 15 to Rs 25.
The traders’ association revealed that the crisis is due to rains in onion-producing States and the disruption in transport operations following protests in various States against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
“The CAA which led to protests massively disrupted transport operations. This has reduced onion supply to Odisha. Besides, a few places in onion-producing States received rains for two days hitting production”, said a Bazar committee member of Gol Bazar.
“At present, onion price per kg is hovering around Rs 120 to Rs 130. The rates will again become stable in a matter of a day or two. The price will probably come down to Rs 90 again once onion stocks reach mandis,” he added.
