Sonamura, Nov 1 (TIWN):Today in a joint raid-operation of the Sonamura Sub-Divisional Administration and BSF Dhanpur BOP, spanning one and half hours from 3.30 pm till 5 pm, about 180 kg of dried cannabis worth Rs.9.00 lakh was recovered from Ledrabari area under Kathalia R. D. Block. Besides, two ganja plantations having around 1000 plants were destroyed, which would have valued in the market at about 25 lakh, taking the standard yield from each plant to be 500 gm of cannabis.
In total, the value of the contrabands seized and destroyed today works out to Rs.34 lakh. The raid-operations were conducted based on specific inputs available with the Sonamura Sub-Divisional Administration, and were jointly led by the SDM Sonamura, Subhasis Das, and the Coy Commander of BSF Dhanpur BOP, Anil Ranwa.
Today’s raid operations mark yet another success in the series of relentless raids being conducted in the last few months under the leadership of the SDM Sonamura, in order to put an effective leash on the illicit ganja cultivations and rampant drug-business that have become a threat to the local cultural milieu and civil society, and has often been responsible in ruination of many young lives who have unwittingly been sucked into this drug-rackets, eventually to become anti-socials and criminals. All the seized cannabis has been deposited into the custody of the Dhanpur BSF BOP, which would be destroyed in due course after having obtained a disposal order to this effect from the Sepahijala District-based Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Disposal Committee.
