AGARTALA, November 01 (TIWN): The six day long inter-college drama competition was organized by Student Federation of India (SFI) state unit at Sukanta Academy here today. Well-known dramatist Sisir Deb along with Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dr Prafullajit Sinha inaugurated the competition. The competition will continue till November 6.
Addressing in the inaugural ceremony Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dr Prafullajit Sinha said that the competition is unique as college students get a chance to exhibit their skills.
Drama is a powerful tool for developing skills of cooperation and collaboration. Its elements and forms of expression are an inherent part of our cultural and dramatic practices, processes and products, and thus the drama helps to preserve and promote our national heritage, Sinha added.
Mr. Sinha further said that through drama, learners have rich opportunities to be creative and to experience inspiration and enjoyment. Creating and presenting are prominent activities for all learners. Their acting and presenting skills are developed through participating in scripted or improvised drama. Exploring real and imaginary situations helps learners to understand and share their world. They develop their capacity to enjoy drama and their knowledge and understanding through evaluating technical aspects and scripts, he mentioned.
Dramatic Arts prepares learners for entry into further studies for a possible career in the drama (or related arts) field, while equipping learners with crucial life skills such as confidence, self-esteem, creativity, communication skills, empathy, self-discipline, critical and creative thinking, leadership and collaborative teamwork which will benefit the individual in any field or future interest, he added,
A total of 22 colleges of the state are going to participate in the drama competition. Three drama artist namely Shaili Mukherjee, Hiranmoy Chakraborty and Rupen Chakraborty are going to be facilitated during the competition, said Secretary of SFI Nabarun Deb.
