AGARTALA, Nov 8 (TIWN): The Supreme Court of India has admitted the Tripura government's plea against the Tripura High Court in relation to the ban on animal sacrifice. The apex court has also issued a notice to Subhash Bhattacharjee for the same. The Tripura High Court had issued a ban on animal sacrifice in temples in September.
On 27 September this year, the Tripura High Court observed that animals also have rights like human beings and banned their sacrifice in all temples. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Arindam Lodh took the decision. The decision was based on Section 21 of the Constitution of India which reads, "No person shall be deprived of his life or personal liberty except according to a procedure established by law. "
