AMARPUR, October 30 (TIWN): The passenger shed near Natun Bazar area of Amarpur Sub Division is in deplorable condition. The government has spent lakhs of rupees on the maintenance of passenger sheds in the town but on the outskirts, most of the sheds are in a dilapidated condition. People waiting for buses prefer standing outside the shelter even during summer and monsoon season.
At several shelters, there is a huge growth of wild grass. Daily commuters, many of whom are using the public transport system to reach their offices, said without proper upkeep, passenger sheds were serving no purpose and their construction had been a sheer wastage of money.
These bus stops are not being utilized for the purpose they have been constructed for. The authorities should not have wasted money on constructing passenger sheds if these could not be maintained.
“If there is an investigation on the construction of these bus stops, a huge scam could unearth as most of these have been constructed without any survey,” said Asish Sharma, a social worker.
