Agartala, October 29 (TIWN): Meningococcal again returns back. This time it effects at Longtarai’s Labancherra. Five years back, it appears as an epidemic in the Longtarai valley of Tripura. More than 35 persons fell ill as a victim on this deadly borne disease in the past years.
Sources informed that, on 26th October, a woman named Lalbati Reang was admitted in the Chailengta Hospital. She was reported to suffer from high fever. Noticing the serious condition of Lalbati, the doctors of the respective hospitals rapidly referred her to Kailasahar Hospital. But, instead of this the patient party had admitted her to Manu hospital. There, her treatment was under process.
Immediately after hearing the news, the Director of Dhalai district, Sanjoy Biswas had rushed to the spot and held a meeting with the director of sub-division, Dr. Sumit Debbarma, Malaria officer of the Dhalai District, Dr. Padmaram Jamatia and the all the in-charges of the sub-division. An experienced doctor’s team had already been sent to the area. Though Dr.Biswas, informed that, there is nothing to worry, but also advised that prevention should also always be in the hands.
Earlier, five years back, this meningococcal had turned the entire area into a dead field. More than 35 persons, including children were the victim of this deadly disease. Meningococcal disease describes infections caused by the bacterium termed as meningococcus. It carries a high mortality rate if untreated but is a vaccine preventable disease... While best known as a cause of meningitis, widespread blood infection is more damaging and dangerous. Meningitis and meningococcemia are major causes of illness, death, and disability in both developed and under developed countries worldwide.
