Agartala, Oct 27 (TIWN): The Senior Advocate and Ex Chairman of Pradesh Trinamool Congress- Arun Chandra Bhowmik on behalf of Trinamool Congress Monday filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) at Tripura High Court seeking CBI probe into the multicrore MGNREGA scam.
Reasoning for CBI probe, Bhowmik said, “The kingpin of multicrore MGNREGA scam, the then BDO of Bishalghar RD block- Bimal Chakraborty is protected under the highest political authority of the power. So the state police cannot carry out a neutral investigation in this regard. Hence, we sought in the PIL to complete the investigation by CBI or any other independent central investigation agency, he said.
He further stated that we don’t believe on Congress party, it is another name of CPI-M. Congress leaders can do anything at any time. “We do believe that the High Court of Tripura will pass a practical verdict on this issue”, said Bhowmik.
According to Bhowmik, in the financial year (FY) 2012-13, a vast amount of public funds have been embezzled under CPI-M led state government in Tripura. But surprisingly, even after knowing everything the state government has not been taken any action against the accused persons, he said.
Earlier, in the wake of MGNREGA scam of Bishalghar RD block, Trinamool Congress staged protest and gheraoed police station. Advocate Arijit Bhowmik, Dibyendy Sarkar and Debesh Chandra Roy will move the PIL in favour of the petitioner.
