‘Tripura sells 80% if its Electricity to other states, countries’ : Assembly Data

AGARTALA, Sep 4 (TIWN): A data from the State Assembly has revealed that Tripura sells 80% of state generated electricity to other states.
However, this is not something started by the BJP-IPFT Govt, but it has been the tradition of Tripura Power Dept since the Left Govt era, added by may be light hikes with BJP-IPFT Govt started to sell electricity to Nepal.
The issue was raised after a bill placed in the Assembly to hike levy on electricity.
Deputy CM cum Power Minister Jishnu Deb Barman said that the levy to be imposed on the 80% outgoing electricity to Nepal and Bangladesh whereas opposition parties claimed it is affecting directly, indirectly the state consumers. Then opposition staged walked out protest in the Assembly.
