AGARTALA, July 22 (TIWN): Tripura on Monday celebrated the 154th birth anniversary of Colonel Mahim Thakur, a visionary with versatile talents. The highly acclaimed member of royal family first paved visit of Nobel laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore and other laurels to the erstwhile princely state.
Forest Minister NC Debbarma was present on the occasion, along with AMC Mayor Prafullajit Sinha.
The 154th birth anniversary of Mahim Thakur has been observed through marking several programmes.
Mahim Thakur acted as a bridge between the royal family and scholars like Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, Rajendra Nath, historian Jadhunath Sarkar, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and many other famed personalities.
He was an able administrator, a diplomat, a good photographer, writer and a historian.
During the programme, Mayor Prafullajit Sinha said that the public of the state must know about him. He further said as part of history students of schools and colleges must aware be about him.
An important city junction in Agartala known as Colonel Chowmuhani was named after Mahim Thakur. His fiver carved statue funded by the state government and Agartala Municipal Council would be installed at the area.
