AGARTALA, October 22 (TIWN): To prevent any untoward incident in the state security has been beefed up in Agartala in the wake of Kali Puja celebration, a senior police official said here today. Kali Puja will start onOctober 23. Agartala is all set to celebrate Kali Puja.
The police have installed drop gates at all significant roads to prevent entry of vehicles in crowded areas during peak hours. Besides the Puja pandals, security has been tightened at the Agartala airport, railway stations, ports, bus stands and other crowded places, the official added.
Police are also keeping a watch on shops, markets, shopping malls and cinema halls spread across the city. Tripura police have issued a set of strict guidelines to the Puja committees, police said.
Dog squads and bomb squads were pressed into action on Tuesday as well. Sniffers were seen checking around the Badharghat railway station and major public places of the city on the day.
A standard alert was sounded across all police stations of the state, the official informed.
All police stations in Tripura were put on maximum alert and BSF was alerted so that no insurgent could cross the 856 km-long Indo-Bangla international border in Tripura from their hideout in Bangladesh.
