AGARTALA, October 18 (TIWN): Poachers know no limits when it comes to the elephants. This gargantuan mammal has been losing ground in its fight to survive. Not only this creature prized for its tusks, but has also lost its natural habitat as new settlements, roads and crops increasingly pop up in the state and to provide safe guard two elephant conservation reserves are going to be constructed in the state.
After preparations of two elephant conservation reserves, Global Positioning System (GPS) enabled radio callers are going to be fitted with the elephants to study their movement and behavioral attitude, a forest official said.
According to the forest official, out of the two elephant conservation reserves one would come up at Gandhari in Gomati district spreading over 61.4 km, another at Atharamura Hill Range in Khowai and adjacent Dhalai districts covering an area of 125 km.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) enabled radio caller will also help to decrease the conflicts between the human and animal. According to the last census, the state has around 59 elephants and the number might have enhanced over the past few years, the official said.
