AGARTALA, May 9 (TIWN): Tripura CPI-M has launched a massive protest here in Agartala demanding Total Repoll in the whole West Tripura constituency which was rigged on 11th April, followed by 100% booth capturing, prevention of voters.
The protest rally was organized in the late afternoon soon after a press meet, walked by top CPI-M leaders from Melarmath Party headquarter.
Opposition parties are resented on the decision taken by Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding a re-poll in merely 168 booths on 12th May.
Both CPI-M and Congress have filed petitions in the Supreme Court of India demanding interference against Election Commission’s decision about re-polling only in 168 booths.
CPI-M has demanded a fresh repoll in the whole constituency.
Addressing the gathering, CPI-M leader Bijan Dhar raised question, if rigging was not done in maximum booths then why various Govt officials were suspended and FIRs were lodged against them throughout the West Tripura constituency ?
Today Supreme Court has denied any urgent hearing on re-poll issue on a petition filed by CPI-M MP Sankar Prasad Dutta, whereas CPI-M said, the party will be striving for recovering voters’ voting rights and re-poll must be conducted to "Save Democracy".
