AGARTALA, March 3 (TIWN): CPI-M has paid tribute to Dhananjay Tripura, the martyr who sacrificed his life during a massive mother-tongue movement of the indigenous people.
Dhananjay Tripura was in a rally, in demand of recognition of Kokborok language as state language in 1975, 3rd March during Congress era.
He was killed in police firing at Jolaibari in South Tripura District. The incident can be imagined more tragic and horrifying than recently held Madhav Bari tragedy.
However, the then Congress Govt didn’t recognize Kokborok as state language for Tripura, whereas in 1979, 19th January it was CPI-M Govt which had recognized Kokborok as State Language.
Addressing media, CPI-M former Minister MLA Ratan Bhowmik said, the movement created against the then Congress Govt was becoming stronger day by day and as a result to suppress the movement, police led brutal firing took place.
“He was not the sole indigenous leader who faced Congress’s anti-indigenous rage. The present BJP Govt always is also against indigenous people’s development and thus CPI-M’s struggle in the true sense for indigenous rights will be continued”, said Ratan Bhowmik.
