Kamalpur, Oct 8 (TIWN) : 118th Maharas Yatra Utsav and Mela is going to be held from 3rd November, 2014 to 6th November, 2014 in the Trayo Mandap Complex at Baralutma like previous years.To make this greatest festival of Bishnupriya Manipuri community, the preparation is at full swing.

    The Dhalai District Administration has set up a jumbo Organizing Committee consisting 81 members. MLA Kamalpur,Mrs. Bijoy Lakshmi Sinha has nominated as Chairman and Mr. Prasenjit Sinha as Secretary. SDM, Kamalpur R.H.Kumar, IAS will act as the Co-ordinator. Like previous years, many cultural troops from and outside the state will perform cultural programmes. The organizing committee will also publish their souvenir. Adding more to it, Anandamela ( Gaiety Land) will entertain people for four days of jubilant festivity. It is noteworthy that, this greatest festival of this community, which is largest in the entire NE region too, was started way back in 1896 AD. In that period of time, people of Bishnupriya community gathered to enjoy the divine spirit of Lord Krishna and his divine relation with Radha and other gopis (Girls of Brindavan). In those times the occasion was of one night lit with mist covered dim bamboo-lamps. Nowadays, the governmental aid has turned it into a four-day festivity with eye-flashing decorations and lightings. But many are of the view that, the harmony, devotion and affection of the bye-gone days are decreasing with the external glamour and advancing time.
