Agartala, October 5 (TIWN): Demand for power soared higher than the previous year’s Durga Puja season in 2014 with over 11 MW. Tripura had a highest power demand of 255 MW in the peak hours during 2013 Durga Puja; the figures spiked to 266 MW this year, Power Minister Manik Dey said.
Interacting with the media at Agartala today, the power minister congratulated all power department and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) employees for working hard before, during and after the Durga Puja days and wished all concerned officials, engineers and others.
He said that the state expected to have an average power requirement of 296 MW during the four days of Durga Puja this year. The extra preparation paid off as no power-cut was reported in the Durga Puja season, Dey added.
"We are getting 42 MW from Baramura plant, 42 MW from Rukhia plant, 7 MW from Gumti hydel project, 90 MW from Palatana project, 30 MW through power sharing agreement from Meghalaya, 25 MW from Mizoram and 60 MW were arranged from the central sector", the power minister stated.
Tripura usually gets additional allocation of power from different NE states during the Durga Puja. The state supplies additional supplies to Mizoram and Meghalaya during Christmas.
