AGARTALA, Dec 15 (TIWN): Tripura University will be celebrating 200th birth anniversary of Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar and a national level seminar will be organized for that on next year September 26th, Tripura University Vice Chancellor Dr. VL Dharurkar told media here.
Centering that programme a huge preparation yearwide will be conducted.
“Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was a Bengali polymath from the Indian subcontinent, and a key figure of the Bengal Renaissance. He was a great revolutionary and encouraged widow marriage and pioneer of modern Bengali. He was a philosopher, academic educator, writer, translator, printer, publisher, entrepreneur, reformer and philanthropist”, the VC said.
Dharurkar further mentioned that in last 6 months of his experience in Tripura University, he felt that he drank the poison of the University and gave back honey to others which he finds his moral duty.
“Tripura University will also start various relevant courses and tribal welfare related researches and courses”, the VC said.
He also announced that he will be writing a biography of Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar and to be published on that occasion of celebrating 200th birth anniversary of Vidyasagar at MBB auditorium in Tripura University.
