Agartala, Sept 29 (TIWN): Over 150 members of Tribal Students’ Union (TSU) have gheraoed the Director of Tribal Welfare Department pertaining to the stipend issue at Gurkhabasti, here today.
According to the member of Sadar sub-divisional committee, TSU- Adhiraj Debbarma, the students are not getting their stipends on within the speculated time for last two months. He also alleged that some of the students are getting stipend for several times while many of the students are not receiving their stipends accordingly.
Earlier on August, TSU had submitted a deputation to the Director of Tribal Welfare Department- L.H. Darlong on the same issues. On that time by explaining different logics, the Director had assured to solve out the setback within one month.
But the TSU members alleged today, even after 1.5 months of assurance, the problems are still remained same. As a result, the TSU members today staged this protest and gheraoed the director demanding the immediate response from him. Adhiraj also informed, the protest would continue until the problems are solved.
The Sadar divisional president, TSU- Aparupa Debbarma, Sadar divisional secretary- Santanu Debbarma, general secretaries and students of MBB, BBMC and Agartala Women College took part in the protest.
