Agartala, September 29 (TIWN): The state government wants to uphold the Ujjayanta State Museum as a centre of excellence of the national standard, Higher Education minister said while inaugurating the ‘History of Northeast’ gallery at the Ujjayanta State Museum.
The gallery was arranged with history of the entire NE region including Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Sikkim and the crusades of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army (INA) till Manipur in the Colonial India.
The minister said that the government was planning to initiate a chain of historical hotspots in the form of museums. “We, at the state government, feel that upholding history to the youths is a significant step towards better understanding of our polity and policies. History comprises of the people and not of monarchal relics alone”, he said. Chakraborty further informed that the Ujjayanta State Museum would be having a gallery of international standards shortly.
The Ujjayanta State Museum currently houses 15 galleries with two more estimated to come up in the next six months.
