Agartala, September 28 (TIWN): The state police is reportedly grilling Kajal Rani Chakraborty and Sangeeta Chakraborty, mother and wife of Arnab Chakraborty today. The duo didn’t reveal much information but the sleuths are still on to corroborate some more property of Arnab Chakraborty, SDPO Sanjay Biswas said.
Kajal Rani Chakraborty and Sangeeta on Saturday surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) Court at Agartala. They were sent to police remand for five days.
The duo earlier applied for anticipatory bail at the High Court of Tripura. The High Court turned down the anticipatory bail petition following which the defending counsel made them to surrender themselves at the CJM court on Saturday.
During interrogation, Arnab earlier disclosed that he had transferred huge amount of money embezzled from the RMSA funds into bank accounts of his wife and mother.
The sleuths succeeded to seize Rs. 1 crore from the bank accounts of his wife and mother in different private banks.
“We have come across proof of bank accounts possessed by them. We are on a drive to unearth the untold matters”, Biswas said.
Police sources earlier said that Arnab Chakraborty, who was arrested from a brothel in Baguiati in West Bengal, revealed during interrogation that he was unauthorized leave when the funds were embezzled. Further investigation, however, found that the accused was on authorized leave.
Arnab was further known to have told investigators during interrogation that his superiors prompted and encouraged him to withdraw money by forging the funds kept under his jurisdiction.
