Kamalpur, Sept 27: A 47-year-old jawan of 83 Bn Border Security Force (BSF) committed suicide by firing himself with his service revolver at Bilashcherra Border Out Post (BOP) under Kamalpur sub-division, this morning. The deceased was identified as Ishwar Singh Punia, a resident of Rajasthan.

According to BSF officials, Iswar committed suicide around 4 am, this morning. BSF sources confirmed that the victim was on duty at Bilashcherra BOP, last night. ASI Ishwar Singh Punia, died on the spot after firing at himself, a BSF official said, adding that the jawan has not left any suicide note.

The reason for taking the extreme step is not known so far, but it is suspected the jawan could be under depression due to leave issue, the source said.
