AGARTALA, Oct 9 (TIWN): Urging parents to save daughters from early marriages, Women Commission chairperson Barnali Goswami said on Tuesday that in modern era it is not compulsory that all girls should get marry, rather girls must stand on own feet.
"The crime against women begins from home and those parents who are eager to arrange grooms for their girl child are equally responsible for that. Let her be stable, let her study and be mentally matured. Allow her to stand on own feet", Barnali Goswami said.
Talking hard on dowry motive in society Goswami said, "Dowry has become easy going thing in Tripura. In exchange of dowry, no girl should marry a person just because the person is established or doing govt job".
"Marriage is based on love, not cash-exchange", she added further urging parents to stay away from dowry practice and trend of arranging early marriage for their girl children.
