Agartala, September 22 (TIWN): The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee announced to hold agitation in front of all Sub Divisional Magistrate’s office across the state as a part of the continued protest against alleged partisan role adopted by the ruling CPI (M) in allowing benefits of the Food security Act. The agitation would be held on September 26, party sources said.
The source said that the decision was adopted in a high level meeting of the newly-formed committee of the Tripura PCC. The meeting resolved to hold statewide agitation and submit memorandums to all SDMs seeking intervention from the official quarters to stop the deprivation to genuine beneficiaries.
The meeting was attended by few of the Tripura Congress stalwarts including PCC president Diba Chandra Hrankhawl, CLP leader Sudip Roy Barman, former Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman, councilors of Agartala Municipal Corporation – Kalyani Dey, Basana Debnath, Himani Debbarma, Ratna Datta, Tushar Bhattacharya, Jayanta Choudhury and others.
The meeting discussed about progress of the party membership drive which started on August 20 as a sign of respect to the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The membership drive would concluded on December 31.
The PCC reportedly asked all its members and leaders to take stock of the summary revision of voters’ list for the coming district council elections.
