Agartala, September 20 (TIWN): In yet another shock to the opposition student organization, the ruling Students Federation of India (SFI) today floored them in the student council election results, reducing the opposition student body to a complete zero.
Polling began at 9 am and continued till 2 pm today. The entire poll process passed off peacefully without any major untoward incident, Higher Education Director B Palit said.
SFI state secretary Nabarun Deb congratulated students who participated in the election process from all degree colleges of the state and said that the poll mandate went in favour of SFI for the policies they adopted over the past one year.
“We went to polls raising protest against commercialization of education and corruption. Students have completely supported our issues”, he said.
Asked about his reaction on the poll debacle, NSUI state president Bapi Das denied to support the claim of peaceful polls.
“Students were threatened and forced to vote for SFI”, he said.
Das claimed that the authorities had arranged for ballot papers which could be easily made from each other to identify individual students participating in the voting process.
“This is completely unacceptable”, he said adding that the opposition student body is considering to move the High Court of Tripura seeking redressal of the unjust poll process.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) couldn’t make any presence felt in the polls.
