AGARTALA, Sep 10 (TIWN): Over 400 Congress picketers were arrested from two spots of Agartala City on Monday during 'Bharat Bandh', a nationwide agitation of the party against fuel price hike.
After 200 activists of Congress were arrested in front of Civil Secretariat, more around 200 activists led by leader Gopal Roy were arrested at Paradize Chowmuhani followed by a tussle with Police.
Congress has marked the strike as a success,whereas BJP since 12 noon started drive against strike and forced people to open shops.
Tripura Congress leader Birajit Sinha told the media that the Centre was "creating unprecedented economic crisis in the country and had failed to keep its pre-poll promise of bringing black money from abroad and creating employment".
CPI-M and other left parties have backed the strike called by Congress. The 'Bharat Bandh' called separately by the Congress and Left parties is in protest against increasing prices of fuel and other essentials besides record fall in the value of Indian rupee against the US dollar.
