AGARTALA, Sep 10 (TIWN): Along with other activists in Tripura, Manipur MP Thokchom Meinya who has also joined the protest here was arrested by Tripura police while agitating at Secretariat.
Congress has marked the strike as a success,whereas BJP since 12 noon started drive against strike and forced people to open shops.
A protest was staged before the Civil Secretariat by Congress activists centering the 12 hours strike on fuel price hike and Congress denied to move from Secretariat's main gate asking the employees to 'go back'.
When amid much securities the agitation was going on, Congress activists were arrested by police at there. Congress President Birjit Sinha, Manipur MP Thokchom Meinya were among the arrested picketers.
MP Thokchom Meinya is a member of the Lok Sabha who is currently serving his third consecutive term. He represents the Inner Manipur constituency of Manipur and won the elections as a party candidate of the Indian National Congress political party.
