AGARTALA, Aug 18 (TIWN): Tripura Ex-CM Manik Sarkar praising Ex-PM late Atal Bihari Vajpayee "Vajpayee said, he acted like a guardian and state centre relation never suffered due to ideological tensions between ruling parties of state and centre. Manik Sarkar said, “Vajpayee was one of the towering personalities in the parliamentary politics in India during his contemporary active political life. I saw him briefly for the second time of his Prime Ministry as the first time was very short in term". "What I found was the state centre relation was never suffered due to ideological differences. He was just working as a real guardian", Sarkar said. "He tried to understand his level best about the problems of the states. During his Govt our state Tripura got positive response support and response from the centre. The relation was good not only with states but he improved the Indo-Bangla relation", Manik Sarkar said further hailing Vajpayee's Pradhan Mantri SadakYojna. " Vajpayee was behind creation of DoNER. Indeed he was working for Northeast development. ", he added.

"All CMs of Northeast once placed a deputation to him, where we demanded to set up a Prime Minister's office, where he can directly monitor the ongoings and the DoNER was actually initiated. 

Atal Bihari Vajpayee BR was an Indian politician who thrice served as the Prime Minister of India, first for a term of 13 days in 1996, then for a period of eleven months from 1998 to 1999, and finally, for a full term from 1999 to 2004.
